Having grossed over a billion dollars in sales in her 35+ years as a real estate agent, Mary Ann Schultz of J. Rockcliff Realtors in Blackhawk sits back with a smile and a twinkle in her eye as she recalls how her parents wanted her to be a teacher or a nurse.
“In college, I really wanted to be an architect or an interior designer,” Mary Ann says, which fits well with her talents as one of the top-selling agents in Blackhawk. “When I’m listing a house, I can see what needs to be done. I tell my clients to follow my program and they will get the results they are looking for.” The “program” to which Mary Ann refers is her self-made key to success. Clients wanting to receive top-dollar for their home and proceed with a smooth, clean transaction follow this veteran agent’s advice.
The first step in Mary Ann’s program is property preparation. All homes need to be decluttered, prepped and staged. The second step is pricing; Mary Ann prices the home to sell, “price per square foot is just one aspect to determine a solid and reasonable asking price,” she believes experience and knowledge trumps the overly simplistic “math computation” listing method. The third step is premarketing. Mary Ann feels very strongly about marketing a home prior to listing it. She pre-marketed one of her latest multi-million dollar homes in HomeFolio Media and immediately received several showings and believes one will likely become the home’s new owner.
Mary Ann’s clients have an affinity for her as an agent and have trusted her with multiple transactions. Over 90% of her clientele are prior clients and referrals. She credits her solid reputation in the community as a trustworthy, cooperative agent who is easy to communicate with. “I am factual and non-judgmental. If I think a house is right for my clients, then I’m helping my clients meet their needs in their purchase. To make sure everything stays on track, I personally oversee all aspects of the sale process.”
As a former teacher who found herself in business working for Pacific Telephone, Mary Ann transitioned her career to real estate. Her passion for the transactions of her own houses led her to obtain her real estate license, and she joined the New Homes Sales Team in Blackhawk selling land and selling new homes.
Eventually Mary Ann transitioned into resale which was a natural fit for her. As someone experienced in all stages of real estate from selling dirt to explaining house plans to knowing the interiors of the new homes, Mary Ann soon became a top-selling resale agent in Blackhawk.
“My reputation, personal connections, hard work and knowledge are keys to my success. I adapt my methods to current market conditions. In a strong seller’s market like we are experiencing now, I work with my buyers to write great offers and get them into contract when possible before a home goes on the market.”
Mary Ann is very grateful to her clients for their loyalty, support, and referrals over the many years and shows her gratitude by supporting her friends and clients in their various charities, especially the Breast Cancer Foundation. She acknowledges the loving encouragement of her husband, Tim, of 38 years, their daughter, Lindsey, and Roxie, their dog. While she would like to golf as well as her friends, she admits that her career keeps her off of the green more than she likes. Her favorite activities include walking her dog and traveling to Mexico, Carmel, Europe and Hawaii.
