Last Saturday we had to clear away the arundo weeds that can grow up to a foot a day. They are strangling the creeks and threatening our water supply! We had about 20 volunteers on Saturday (4 Rotarians : Carl McBride, Steve McKay, David Behring, and me). This will be an ongoing project that we will have to stay involved with — it is quite a challenge to overcome nature!
Last weekend we worked like a conveyer belt to cut the arundo weeds and pass them up the side of the hill to the street level so it could be disposed of. Many of us were standing in precarious positions on the hill. Fortunately, no one fell down the hill or got hurt! Around noon we could finally see the Creek again! We made great progress! Newell Arnerich (our wonderful Mayer) stopped by at the end!
