Taking time out from my passion as a Realtor, I had the pleasure of walking my daughter, Tracy, down the aisle to be married to Jonathan Holding.
On August 9th, Tracy and Jon were married at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in San Francisco. This beautiful church located at the top of Gough Street was built in 1890 and survived the 1906 earthquake and fires that followed. The interior is truly breath taking with original stained glass windows and a two story Tracker organ which adorns the back of the church. St. Mark’s was recognized for its’ historical and architectural significance and became a registered landmark in San Francisco in 1971.
The reception was held at the Palace Hotel in their iconic ‘Garden Court’. The Palace was originally built in 1875, but was not lucky enough to survive the 1906 earthquake. It was demolished and reopened in 1909. When it was originally built in 1875, the Palace was considered the largest, costliest and most luxurious hotel in the world.
There are no words to describe the ‘Garden Court’; one has to see it to take in the beauty of this room. In its’ original structure, 1875, it served as elegant carriage entry, soaring seven stories high of white columned balconies that overlooked the entry. When rebuilt in 1909, the ceiling of stained glass atrium and incredible chandeliers eventually became the ‘Garden Court’. People from all over the world who visit San Francisco come to the Palace to see this amazing architectural wonder.
A visit to the following website is a great pictorial history of the Palace Hotel: thepalacehotel.org/
Tracy and Jon live in New York and many of their friends came from the east coast to be a part of their ‘Big Day’. Jon is from London and
his family and friends traveled from England, Scotland, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia to celebrate Tracy and Jon’s wedding.
