Chris has developed a methodology he calls “The No Hassle Move”. Working with a team of service providers, Chris helps busy families literally hand off the sale of their homes. Whether it’s cleaning out decades of accumulated possessions, sprucing up landscaping, or finding temporary housing, Chris has it covered. He even helped a client sell a classic car that was hidden in the back of the garage!
“A lot of agents tend to treat every house as though it’s exactly the same. Our marketing programs are customized to each home,” says Chris. “We look at who the buyer will be, and which attributes of the house bring an added value, then build a pricing and messaging strategy around that. We find this particularly effective in Woodside and Portola Valley, where the homes and values vary significantly from home to home.”
As a part of Dreyfus Sotheby’s International Realty, Chris has insider knowledge of the Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Atherton, Portola Valley, and Woodside markets. His first-hand experience and collaborative brokerage environment enables him to price ahead of the market, helping sellers stay above of status quo.
“Instead of looking online for what a particular house sold for 2 months ago, we’re able to price ahead of a fast moving market, based on who is looking and what they are willing to pay a premium for. This has helped me push prices by 10% in many cases,” he says.
Before entering the real estate industry, Chris earned his MBA, and worked in worldwide sales and marketing roles for professional services for companies like Silicon Graphics, Inc. and IBM. His detail-minded, business background benefits clients by translating market statistics into terms that mean something to a buyer or seller. This process not only creates fluid communication, but also enables him to set realistic expectations for listings, giving sellers a clear picture of the road ahead.
“It’s about explaining what is going to happen and being able to deliver on that,” Chris says. “I don’t tell people their house is worth a lot more than it is, and I don’t tell people their house is beautiful when it’s not. I’m honest and deliver results.”
Accustomed to working with unique properties in Woodside and Portola Valley, Chris’s eye for detail is known to identify nuances that can either add or subtract value from a home. Whether articulating the value of detailed finishes or the upside potential of an unconventional lot, he notices the details that count in buyers’ minds.
A natural problem solver, Chris’s testimonials aren’t just from clients who have had smooth experiences, but listings that have hit speed bumps, yet still ended in success thanks to his thoughtful expertise.
“I’ve gotten amazing referrals from clients who hit speed bumps in the process, and I stayed calm, problem solved and got the deal back on track. They’re especially grateful, because they saw me snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.”
While Chris has the benefit of a small boutique brokerage that carries niche market knowledge, the company’s ties to Sotheby’s brings a global reach to local listings.
Other companies may be limited to the MLS, but through the Sotheby’s network, Chris has the ability to put listings in directly in front of agents working with buyers in over 700 luxury markets worldwide including Beijing, Hong Kong, and London that are looking for a footprint near Silicon Valley. This global access can capture buyers who aren’t “actively looking,” but seize opportunities when they are presented.
When he’s not assisting clients, Chris spends his free time cycling around Woodside, enjoying the outdoors with his wife, or chasing his young daughter and German Shepherd around the house. Having grown up with a love for horses, he looks forward to participating in the local equestrian community as his daughter grows.
Passionate about Woodside and the surrounding mid-Peninsula area, Chris not only offers a localized perspective, but seasoned business smarts that buyers and sellers can equally benefit from. Learn more at www.MovingToWoodside.com
